OBN #BioTuesday: Founders’ Journey

On Tuesday 23rd of September OBN welcomed an audience of life science experts to one of its regular #BioTuesday events, this time kindly hosted by ARC Advanced Research Clusters. The topic of the evening was the Founders’ Journey.

The panel discussion chaired by Angela Hobbs invited questions around building a business, hiring, managing finances and risk, and personal development, with Catheryn Lim (founder & Head of Research at ISOgenix), Dan Hudson (co-founder and CBO at a stealth company), Tamara Gerbert (founder of Brightmind.AI), Chris Jones (co-founder and CTO of HaemAnalytica), and Nat Hastings (founder and CEO of Cellestial Health) contributing to the discussion.

Several key themes emerged including:

✦ Good mentors and a strong network are invaluable – start building relationships before asking for help

✦ Build a strong and complimentary team; good attitude and commitment are more important than the best skill or credential

✦ Build a track record of delivering on time and budget, this stands out more than a good idea alone

✦ Take calculated risks – when something will be learnt regardless of the outcome

The evening concluded with networking and informal discussion, in the spirit of the emphasis on the community being the foundation of success.
