Preparing for Success

On 10th of March at Jesus College Cambridge, Sygnature Discovery held a seminar on 𝘚𝘡𝘰𝘳π˜ͺ𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 π˜‹π˜³π˜Άπ˜¨ π˜‹π˜ͺ𝘴𝘀𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘚𝘢𝘀𝘀𝘦𝘴𝘴, joined by the Cellestial team Nat Hastings, Lewis Pennicott, and Peter Bach.

Examples of rapid development were discussed where lead optimisation to human trial readiness was complete in only 18 months. Programs that utilise time and resource efficiently are most likely to keep the momentum, attract funding, and ultimately reach patients.

What makes successful programs stand out?

✦ Choice of target and biology is fundamental. However, what makes a “good target” is less clear. Traditionally, for certain targets like enzymes genetic validation was the golden standard; at the same time this paradigm may not apply to other cases where target is regulated at the level of protein function.
✦ Strong evidence of human relevance of the biology is key.
✦ Team communication and connectedness are essential.
✦ Don’t underestimate the impact of logistics, within or between sites.
✦ Fast-follower approach can offer opportunities for de-risked lead optimisation and application of the known biology to new therapeutic areas.

How can we move fast without compromising quality? We would be grateful to learn from the expertise of our network.
