WPC2026: Three Years Later, Somewhere in Arizona

A very special community came together for the World Parkinson’s Congress on 24-27 of May in Phoenix, building on from the strong momentum of the 2023 Congress in Barcelona.

The Parkinson’s community showed that it:
✦ Sings
✦ Dances
✦ Paints
✦ Researches
✦ Never stops

What other conference have you been to where the whole audience of a plenary hall drums together at the closing ceremony?

And yet it was not all “fun and games”. Scientific controversies were fiercely debated, including:
✦ Whether alpha-synuclein is the key player in Parkinson’s
✦ Which biomarkers are ready for clinical translation
✦ Are there “brain-first” vs “body-first” Parkinson’s types, and
✦ Are astrocytes causal in Parkinson’s / synucleinopathy disease

What made the congress so very special is the participation of people with Parkinson’s experience at all levels of discussion, showing so acutely that these topics are not just theories for people living with this condition. They are looking for answers, are keen to help, and bring a healthy sense of urgency into the conversation.

See you in Québec in 2029!
